TROLLING FOR TUNA

Updated: Mar 16

The Importance of Casting Lures

When trolling at a steady speed, keep a few rigs set up with casting lures. Tuna are known for their spectacular jumps. If you spot one leaping or surfacing, it’s your moment! Grab one of the casting rods quickly and get your lure in the water. when hooked up it does not hurt to throw pilchers over while fighting fish to attract the school (cubing)

Studies show that about 75% of anglers who cast immediately after spotting a tuna catch another fish within minutes. This technique not only targets the fish you see but can also attract others nearby. The flash and movement of a casting lure can excite a group of tuna lurking just below the surface, increasing your chances of a successful catch.
